Rh promotional effects on Pt-Rh alloy catalysts for chemoselective hydrogenation of nitrobenzene to p-aminophenol

Yao Sheng et al.

Summary: A activated carbon supported Pt-Rh alloy catalyst was synthesized using a facile incipient wetness impregnation strategy, and showed improved activity and selectivity for the hydrogenation of nitrobenzene to p-aminophenol. The presence of Rh promoted the formation of well dispersed Pt-Rh bimetallic nanoparticles on the catalyst surface, accompanied by possible electron transfer from Rh to Pt. Density functional theory calculations indicated that the electron-rich Pt inhibited the adsorption of the generated phenylhydroxylamine intermediate, resulting in excellent selectivity for p-aminophenol.

PO43- Coordinated Robust Single-Atom Platinum Catalyst for Selective Polyol Oxidation

Hao Yan et al.

Summary: Efficient catalytic conversion in aqueous solution with excellent resistance against leaching remains a challenge. The design of a single-atom Pt-1/hydroxyapatite (HAP) catalyst results in remarkable catalytic selectivity and stability for the oxidation of C-2-C-4 polyols to hydroxy acids. The Pt-(O-P) linkages with PO43- serve as active sites for activation of C-H bonds and destabilization of the transition state, increasing the selectivity of hydroxy acids. The strong PO43--coordination effect provides electrostatic stabilization and ensures superior leaching resistance for Pt-1/HAP catalyst.

Pore structure of ordered mesoporous Pt-CeO2 probed by CO via VT-DRIFTS

Lingyiqian Luo et al.

Summary: CeO2-supported Pt catalysts with different pore structures were synthesized using different mesoporous silica templates. The effects of pore structure on the surface and adsorption properties of the catalysts were investigated. The results showed that the catalyst synthesized from SBA-15 template had the largest number of active metal sites due to its larger pore volume and pore size.

Phosphorus-Doped Activated Coconut Shell Carbon-Anchored Highly Dispersed Pt for the Chemoselective Hydrogenation of Nitrobenzene to p-Aminophenol

Yang Liu et al.

Summary: The effects of phosphorus-doped activated coconut shell carbon (Pt/P-ACC) catalyst on the hydrogenation of nitrobenzene were investigated. The experimental results showed that Pt/P-ACC catalyst exhibited better catalytic activity and selectivity compared to Pt/ACC catalyst. In situ infrared studies also revealed that the interaction effect between Pt and P species led to the electron-rich feature on the surface of Pt, enhancing the selectivity of the hydrogenation reaction.

Hydrogen Spillover and Its Relation to Hydrogenation: Observations on Structurally Defined Single-Atom Sites

Max J. Hulsey et al.

Summary: Hydrogen spillover is a common phenomenon in chemical processes, but there is still a lack of understanding about its kinetics, the structural evolution of catalysts, and the role of spilled over hydrogen in catalysis. In this study, a solubilized polyoxometalate-supported single-atom catalyst was used to provide insights into these questions. It was found that hydrogen spillover can be either detrimental or beneficial for catalysis, depending on the nature of the reducible functional group. Similar trends were observed on the Pt/WO3 catalyst, which is one of the most prototypical hydrogen spillover catalysts.
