Correlation for predicting minimum fluidization velocity with different size distributions and bed inventories at elevated temperature in gas-solid fluidized bed

Krittin Korkerd et al.

Summary: This study provides detailed experimental information on the effects of solid particle size distribution (PSD), bed inventory, and bed temperature on the minimum fluidization velocity (U-mf). Silica sand with different average particle diameters and PSDs was used. The results demonstrate that wider PSDs have lower U-mf values compared to narrow cut particles with the same average particle diameter. The standard deviation (SD) and skewness of the PSD also affect the variation of U-mf. Additionally, increasing bed inventory and bed temperature lead to a decrease in U-mf. A new correlation considering these influencing factors has been proposed, which shows an average absolute deviation of 14.6% with experimental data. Furthermore, the proposed correlation has been evaluated with data from the literature, resulting in an average absolute deviation of 15.6%.

Hydrodynamics of gas-solid fluidization at ultra-high temperatures

Liangliang Fu et al.

Summary: This research focuses on understanding the hydrodynamics of gas-solid fluidization at ultra-high temperatures and aims to aid the development of ultra-high temperature fluidized bed reactors. The results demonstrate that stable fluidization at ultra-high temperatures can be achieved by using large and broad size distribution particles and operating at sufficiently high gas velocities. The study also discusses the bed pressure drop fluctuation, minimum fluidization velocity, and pressure drop offset at ultra-high temperatures.

Revisiting classification of powders based on interparticle forces

Navid Mostoufi

Summary: An extended classification of powders based on their fluidization behavior is proposed in this study, taking into account the interparticle forces acting on particles and generating a diagram to depict the relationship between dimensionless interparticle force and Archimedes number. Clear boundaries between different fluidization behaviors were detected in the proposed diagram, and the advantage of considering these boundaries is to identify the type of fluidization when interparticle forces are significant.
