Valorisation of phyto-biochars as slow release micronutrients and sulphur carrier for agriculture

Rini Labanya et al.

Summary: The study examined the content of micronutrients and sulphur in plant biochars pyrolyzed at different temperatures and found that pine needle biochar pyrolyzed at 300 degrees C had the highest salt soluble content. The study also found that increasing the incubation temperature could increase the specifically sorbed amount of certain nutrients.

Responsible plant nutrition: A new paradigm to support food system transformation

Achim Dobermann et al.

Summary: The coming 10-20 years are crucial for transitioning to a global food system that manages mineral nutrients in a holistic manner. Fertilizers play a significant role in ensuring food security and improving nutrition, and a new approach based on the circular economy is needed. Utilizing all available nutrient sources efficiently and tailoring solutions to different regions are key actions, along with sustainable nutrient roadmaps and innovative technologies.

Layered Double Hydroxides as Slow-Release Fertilizer Compounds for the Micronutrient Molybdenum

Maarten Everaert et al.

Summary: Molybdenum is an essential plant micronutrient, with deficiencies often seen despite low plant requirements. ZnAl layered double hydroxides (LDHs) loaded with molybdate were studied as potential slow-release Mo compounds, showing varying desorption effects in different soil environments.

Mechanochemical Synthesis of Zinc Borate for Use as a Dual-Release B Fertilizer

Bo Zheng et al.

Summary: The study investigated a mechanochemical method to synthesize a slow-release micronutrient fertilizer containing zinc and boron. A low-solubility zinc borate with octahedral crystal morphology was successfully synthesized and showed a slow and dual-release pattern. The proposed synthesis route is sustainable and energy efficient, producing a material containing two important micronutrients with a slow release rate.

Micronutrients encapsulation by starch as an enhanced efficiency fertilizer

Camila Gruber Chiaregato et al.

Summary: This study developed EEF materials based on starch and micronutrients to improve the efficacy of agrochemicals, reducing waste and environmental contamination. Different micronutrients were found to affect the properties and release characteristics of the materials, while swelling starch delayed the release of nutrients.
