Hyperglobulinemia predicts increased risk of mortality in primary Sjogren's syndrome: Based on a Chinese multicentre registry

Hui Zhong et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) patients with hyperglobulinemia have an increased risk of all-cause mortality. The results showed that patients with hyperglobulinemia had a significantly increased risk of death, and the risk was positively correlated with IgG level. The 5-, 10-, and 15-year survival rates of patients with hyperglobulinemia were significantly lower than those without hyperglobulinemia.

Sjogren's syndrome: a systemic autoimmune disease

Simone Negrini et al.

Summary: Sjogren's syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by dryness in the eyes and mouth, with systemic manifestations and unclear pathogenesis. Diagnosis is based on clinical symptoms and specific tests, while treatment ranges from local to systemic medications. New classification criteria and disease activity scores have been developed for research and clinical practice.

Hematologic parameters and disease activity in patients with primary Sj?gren?s syndrome

Azadeh Abbasi Moghaddam et al.

Summary: This study evaluated hematologic parameters in patients with primary Sjogren's syndrome (PSS) and their association with disease activity. The study found that neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), mean platelet volume (MPV), and platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) were significantly increased in PSS patients, while red blood cells distribution width (RDW) showed a slight increase. The study also revealed that NLR and RDW can be used as indicators of disease activity.

The roles of adenosine deaminase in autoimmune diseases

Zhao-wei Gao et al.

Summary: Autoimmune diseases are characterized by immune homeostasis disorder, where the enzyme adenosine deaminase (ADA) plays a crucial role. Changes in ADA activity have been found in patients with autoimmune diseases, indicating its potential use as a biomarker for clinical diagnosis in these patients.

Current and future therapies for primary Sjogren syndrome

Raphaele Seror et al.

Summary: Primary Sjogren syndrome is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by dryness, pain, and fatigue. Despite the lack of effective treatments, progress has been made in epidemiology, classification criteria, and understanding the pathogenic mechanisms. Therapeutic decisions are mostly based on experience, but the 2019 management recommendations from EULAR are now influencing clinical management.
