Perceptual judgments for the softness of materials under indentation

Summary: Through a psychophysical experiment, it was found that the brain makes visual judgments about the softness of materials under indentation based on factors such as the motion speed and deformation magnitude. Higher indentation speeds and depths, as well as material compliance, all contribute to the apparent softness of materials.
