Summary: Multicasting is essential for IoT and wearable applications requiring high bandwidth efficiency and low energy consumption. Millimeter wave communications play a crucial role in efficiently disseminating data and enhancing throughput gain in 5G networks. Challenges include short propagation range and high path loss at mmWave frequencies, leading to directional systems utilizing a sequence of beamformed transmissions to serve all multicast group members. This paper focuses on optimizing multicast data transmission for throughput and energy efficiency, proposing a radio resource management policy for delivering multicast content to interested users. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed RRM policy significantly improves network throughput compared to benchmark approaches and achieves a high gain in energy efficiency over fixed predefined beams for unicast and multicast.
