Plug-and-Play Image Restoration With Deep Denoiser Prior

Kai Zhang et al.

Summary: Recent works have shown that using a denoiser as the image prior can improve the performance of plug-and-play image restoration methods. However, existing methods are limited by the lack of suitable denoiser priors. In this study, we propose a deep denoiser prior that significantly outperforms other state-of-the-art model-based and learning-based methods for various image restoration tasks.

3D Neuron Microscopy Image Segmentation via the Ray-Shooting Model and a DC-BLSTM Network

Yi Jiang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a neuronal structure segmentation method for 3D neuron microscopy images based on a combination of ray-shooting model and LSTM network, enhancing weak-signal neuronal structures and removing background noise. By transforming the 3D image segmentation task into multiple 1D ray/sequence segmentation tasks, the labeling of training samples is made much easier compared to existing CNN-based methods.

Residual Dense Network for Image Restoration

Yulun Zhang et al.

Summary: This work proposes a novel and efficient residual dense network (RDN) to address the problem of relatively-low performance in image restoration by better balancing efficiency and effectiveness in utilizing hierarchical features from all convolutional layers. The RDN utilizes residual dense blocks (RDB) and local feature fusion to extract abundant local features and adaptively learn more effective features, while also employing global feature fusion for learning global hierarchical features in a holistic way. Experimental results demonstrate that the RDN outperforms state-of-the-art methods in various image restoration tasks both quantitatively and visually.

Summary: The study introduces a novel weakly supervised method to enhance the boundary of 3D segmented nuclei using over-segmented images, combining a 3D U-Net for nuclei centroid extraction and a simple linear iterative clustering algorithm for better cluster boundary adherence. The algorithm utilizes relative nuclei location to track the segmented nuclei, achieving improved segmentation performance compared to previous methods in Cell Tracking Challenge (CTC) 2019 and comparable performance to state-of-the-art methods in IEEE ISBI CTC2020 with minimal pixel-wise annotated data.
