Study of asymmetric biconical fiber tapers for in-fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometers and applications in single-frequency fiber lasers

Dongdong Wang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes and analyzes asymmetric biconical fiber tapers (ABM) for in-fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometers to enhance the interference effect. Compared with traditional symmetric biconical fiber tapers, ABFT-based IFMZIs demonstrate higher transmittance and fringe contrast, as well as lower pump threshold and higher slope efficiency when applied in single-frequency fiber laser emissions. The results suggest that the interference effect of IFMZIs can be improved by the designated asymmetry of conical taper angles in ABFTs, providing extra flexibility in fiber taper design, fabrication, and applications.
