Uni- and multivariate bias adjustment methods in Nordic catchments: Complexity and performance in a changing climate br

Faranak Tootoonchi et al.

Summary: This paper evaluates the performance of two commonly used univariate and two multivariate bias adjustment methods in reproducing precipitation and temperature series in different catchments in Sweden. The paper discusses the trade-offs between the potential benefits and disadvantages of each method for climate-change impact studies in high latitudes. The results show that all selected bias adjustment methods generally improve the raw climate model simulations, but no single method consistently outperforms the others.

Bias correction of temperature and precipitation over China for RCM simulations using the QM and QDM methods

Yao Tong et al.

Summary: Two different bias correction methods, quantile mapping and quantile delta mapping, were applied to simulated temperature and precipitation data in China. The study found that the QDM method effectively preserved temperature change signals, while both methods produced greater magnitude of projected increase in precipitation, especially QDM. The effects of bias correction were shown to be variable- and season-dependent.

Water management or megadrought: what caused the Chilean Aculeo Lake drying?

Pilar Barria et al.

Summary: Aculeo Lake in Central Chile serves as an important natural reservoir, but has experienced a rapid shrinkage and eventually dried up due to severe and sustained drought as well as changes in land use. Research indicates that the main factor triggering the lake desiccation is the severe megadrought that led to significant reductions in river flows and aquifer recharges.

Comparison of Trend Preserving Statistical Downscaling Algorithms Toward an Improved Precipitation Extremes Projection in the Headwaters of Blue Nile River in Ethiopia

Getachew Tegegne et al.

Summary: This study compared three commonly used bias correction algorithms (QM, DQM, and QDM) and found that QDM and DQM algorithms outperformed the standard QM in preserving the raw climate models projected relative changes of precipitation extremes. The differences in performance were more pronounced in extreme daily precipitation projections, while dry and wet spells projections were less sensitive to the choice of bias correction algorithm. The use of QDM algorithm revealed an increase in frequency and severity of precipitation extremes, as well as an increase (decrease) in the maximum length of dry (wet) spells, indicating potential reductions in rain-fed agricultural productivity in the region due to more severe meteorological droughts.
