The importance of continental evaporation for precipitation in Colombia: A baseline combining observations from stable isotopes and modelling moisture trajectories

Maritza Escobar et al.

Summary: The hydroclimatology of Northern South America is influenced by the interactions between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, the Amazon-Andes interactions, and the regional Andes. The study found that most of the precipitation in the region comes from terrestrial sources, including moisture recycling from the same region, the Orinoco River basin, and the northern Amazon basin. Additionally, oceanic sources, such as the Tropical South Pacific and Tropical North Atlantic, also contribute to precipitation.

A multi-tracer approach for understanding the functioning of heterogeneous phreatic coastal aquifers in humid tropical zones

Summary: This study investigates the hydrodynamic functioning of the coastal phreatic aquifer in the Uraba region of Colombia, identifying fast response to precipitation, multiple recharge modes and dominant geochemical processes. Monitoring of various isotopes and dating techniques revealed recent recharge mixed with older waters (>40 years) in the aquifer system.
