Locating Guest Molecules inside Metal-Organic Framework Pores with a Multilevel Computational Approach

Michelle Ernst et al.

Summary: Molecular docking, combined with DFT-level geometry optimizations, accurately locates guest molecules in metal-organic frameworks and enhances their properties. This method can be used as a computational alternative when experimental structures are unavailable. It provides insights into the adsorption sites and structures, as well as the interaction energies, of host-guest complexes in MOFs.

Strength and Nature of Host-Guest Interactions in Metal-Organic Frameworks from a Quantum-Chemical Perspective

Michelle Ernst et al.

Summary: This study presents a method for computing the strength and analyzing the nature of host-guest interactions in MOFs, finding that appropriately constructed clusters can reproduce key interactions in periodic models at a fraction of the computational cost. Host-guest interaction energies can be reliably computed using dispersion-corrected density functional theory methods.

Current and future perspectives of multifunctional magnetic nanoparticles based controlled drug delivery systems

Hira Aslam et al.

Summary: This article discusses the importance of magnetic nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems (MDDSs) in unique medical applications. MDDSs have superior biocompatibility and versatile loading capabilities, and they offer stronger targeting power and fewer side effects compared to other delivery systems. The article also addresses the challenges and latest developments in surface alterations and functionalization of MDDSs, and highlights the use of MDDSs in cancer detection and therapy.

Size Changeable Nanomedicines Assembled by Noncovalent Interactions of Responsive Small Molecules for Enhancing Tumor Therapy

Xiaomin Ma et al.

Summary: The size of nanocarriers plays a crucial role in their performance in cancer therapy. Larger particles are beneficial for long-term circulation, while smaller particles facilitate deep penetration into tumor tissues. To address this dilemma, researchers have developed stimuli-responsive size-shrinking nanocarriers.

Metal-Organic Frameworks for Drug Delivery: A Design Perspective

Harrison D. Lawson et al.

Summary: The use of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) in biomedical applications has greatly expanded in the past decade due to their precision tunability, high surface areas, and high loading capacities. MOFs are being explored for a wide variety of drug delivery applications, including small-molecule pharmaceuticals as well as macromolecular cargos like proteins and nucleic acids. Design considerations for MOFs in drug delivery applications include structure, synthetic method, drug loading, tuning, modifications, biocompatibility, cellular targeting, and uptake.
