Influence of Fetal Diagnosis on Management of Vascular Rings

Elizabeth H. Stephens et al.

Summary: This study compared the management strategies and outcomes of infants with fetal diagnosis and postnatal diagnosis of vascular rings. It found that the frequency of fetal diagnoses has been increasing in recent years. Patients with a fetal diagnosis underwent surgery at a significantly younger age. There was no significant difference in postoperative complications or length of stay between fetal and postnatal diagnoses. Fetal diagnosis allows for expectant management and early intervention without increased morbidity.

Contemporary surgical outcome and symptomatic relief following vascular ring surgery in children: effect of prenatal diagnosis

Parinita Swarnkar et al.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the postoperative complications and outcomes in children with isolated double aortic arch or right aortic arch with left arterial ligament and assess the impact of fetal diagnosis on outcomes. The most common complication was vocal cord palsy, and older age at surgery was the only predictor for postoperative complications. Prenatal diagnosis was associated with a lower rate of postoperative symptoms.

Prenatal Diagnosis of Vascular Ring: Evaluation of Fetal Diagnosis and Postnatal Outcomes

Safwat Aly et al.

Summary: The study found that prenatal diagnosis of vascular ring has improved over time with the use of fetal echocardiography, and prenatal diagnosis is associated with earlier surgical intervention and more favorable outcomes. The significant increase of RAA-ALSCA in the prenatal cohort suggests that patients with this form of vascular ring often do not present with significant symptoms postnatally.

Isolated vascular rings in the era of high prenatal detection rates: Demographics, diagnosis, risk factors, and outcome

Summary: Isolated vascular rings are relatively common cardiovascular malformations, with a higher prevalence in females. They are more likely to occur in products of high-risk pregnancies, with advanced maternal age being a statistically significant risk factor for the occurrence of isolated vascular rings.
