Gender Differences in Physical Activity Engagement Among Adolescents With Congenital Heart Disease

Summary: This study aimed to objectively assess MVPA, SB, and VO2Peak among adolescents with congenital heart disease, examine gender differences, and identify whether gender moderates the relationships between Theory of Planned Behavior elements and physical activity. Female CHD survivors engaged in less MVPA, had lower VO2Peak, lower self-efficacy, and perceived greater barriers than males. Family/friend support may be important in developing physical activity interventions, and further investigation on gender differences in self-efficacy and perceived barriers is needed.
