Analysis on Precipitation Efficiency of the 21.7 Henan Extremely Heavy Rainfall Event

Lei Yin et al.

Summary: The record-breaking heavy rainfall event in Zhengzhou in July 2021 was simulated using a weather research and forecasting model. The study analyzed the large-scale precipitation efficiency and cloud-microphysical precipitation efficiency of the rainfall, and explored the key factors and mechanisms influencing the extreme rainfall. The results showed that water vapor flux convergence and microphysical processes played significant roles in the rainfall.

Analysis of the July 2021 extreme precipitation in Henan using the novel moisture budget equation

Jianbo Cheng et al.

Summary: In this study, the extreme precipitation in Henan Province from 17 to 22 July 2021 is analyzed using the moisture budget equation and the three-pattern decomposition of global atmospheric circulation. The results show that the dynamic and thermodynamic terms explain most of the anomalous precipitation, with the zonal circulation playing a dominant role in causing this anomalous precipitation.

A Review on Multi-GNSS for Earth Observation and Emerging Applications

Shuanggen Jin et al.

Summary: The Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) has attracted global attention for its wide-ranging Earth observations and applications. This paper reviews the progress of GNSS in Earth observation and emerging applications, including positioning and orbiting, meteorology, ionosphere and space weather, reflectometry, earthquake monitoring, and land and structural health monitoring. The review finds that GNSS is not only excelling in traditional positioning applications but also playing a significant role in integrated remote sensing applications.

Evaluation and Assimilation of the COSMIC-2 Radio Occultation Constellation Observed Atmospheric Refractivity in the WRF Data Assimilation System

Randhir Singh et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the atmospheric refractivity observations from the COSMIC-2 (C2) radio occultation (RO) mission by comparing them with radiosonde (RS) observations, ECMWF ERA5 reanalysis, and NCEP GFS analysis. Results show good agreement between C2 refractivity, RS observations, and GFS and ERA5 analyses, with slightly higher differences in the lower levels of the troposphere. Differences in mean and standard deviations are within +/- 0.3% and less than 2% respectively.
