Which factors increase informal care hours and societal costs among caregivers of people with dementia? A systematic review of Resource Utilization in Dementia (RUD)

Renira C. Angeles et al.

Summary: In OECD countries, a large number of dementia patients are facing high informal care costs. This study systematically evaluated the factors influencing high informal care hours per month, finding that disease severity, caregiver factors, and BPSD are closely related to increased societal costs. More harmonized analyses and larger scale studies are needed in the future to further explore interventions that can reduce the burden of informal and formal caregiving.
