The M3 project: 3-Global abundance distribution of hydrated silicates at Mars

Summary: This paper presents the modal mineralogy of hydrated minerals on the Martian surface at a global scale using near-infrared hyperspectral imagery. The study found that the hydrated mineralogy is dominated by Fe-hydroxide, Fe- and Al-phyllosilicates, and Fe/Mg micas, with primary minerals accounting for more than 50% of the composition in identified regions. The model developed in this study can be used for local analysis of potential landing sites and offers insights for upcoming missions on Mars.

Evidence for Deposition of Chloride on Mars From Small-Volume Surface water Events into the Late Hesperian-Early Amazons

Summary: This study examines the environmental setting and timing of large-scale chloride deposits on Mars. The results show that chloride deposits are commonly found on top of underlying topography, associated with channels and sometimes above deep craters in local topographic lows. The study also suggests that the formation of chloride deposits is related to surface water runoff, rather than deep groundwater, and meltwater from ice plays a significant role.

Mineralogy of Martian alluvial fans and deltas show hydrated silica likely formed during Late Hesperian and Early Amazonian, correlating with liquid water presence. Silica-bearing deposits could be crucial samples for future Mars missions.
