Magnetostratigraphy of the Upper Cretaceous Nenjiang Formation in the Songliao Basin, northeast China: Implications for age constraints on terminating the Cretaceous Normal Superchron

Summary: An integrated chronology for the non-marine Upper Cretaceous Nenjiang Formation in the Songliao Basin, China, was developed using high-resolution magnetostratigraphy and SIMS U-Pb zircon analyses. The study revealed the coexistence of pseudo-single-domain magnetite and single-domain greigite in the lacustrine black shales of the Nenjiang Formation. Stratigraphic correlation of borehole and outcrop sections was achieved through lithostratigraphy, biostratigraphy, and SIMS U-Pb zircon geochronology.
