Decreased soil total phosphorus following artificial plantation in the Loess Plateau of China

Qingyin Zhang et al.

Summary: The results of the study showed a significant decrease in soil total phosphorus concentration following artificial plantation, with no significant change in available phosphorus. Spatial distribution of phosphorus concentration varied based on climate, prior land use, tree species, and soil properties.

Effects of Grassland Conversion in the Chinese Chernozem Region on Soil Carbon, Nitrogen, and Phosphorus

Chunli Li et al.

Summary: The conversion of grassland to other land uses has significant impacts on soil nutrients, with losses of carbon and nitrogen but accumulations of phosphorus. The distribution patterns of nutrient concentrations and stocks are primarily influenced by land use change and soil pedogenic horizon, with grassland conversion effects mainly at surface horizons. Soil properties such as calcium carbonate and soil texture affect nutrient distribution from the B-k-horizon to the C-horizon.

Effects of cultivation and agricultural abandonment on soil carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus in a meadow steppe in eastern Inner Mongolia

Chu Wang et al.

Summary: The conversion of grassland into cropland led to significant decreases in soil organic carbon and total nitrogen contents, while total phosphorus content increased in deeper soil layers. Abandonment of cropland resulted in higher levels of soil organic carbon and total nitrogen compared to cropland, although not reaching levels of native grassland. Grassland had the highest nutrient contents and ratios, followed by abandoned land and then cropland.
