MAFA and MAFB regulate exocytosis-related genes in human β-cells

Luis Rodrigo Cataldo et al.

Summary: This study found that the loss of MAFA and MAFB in human beta cells contributes to impaired insulin exocytosis by regulating genes involved in exocytosis. The downregulation of exocytosis-related genes was observed in MAFA-deficient cells, and the expression of these genes correlated positively with MAFA and MAFB in human islets. The silencing of MAFA and MAFB resulted in impaired insulin secretion and reduced expression of certain exocytosis-related genes.

Macrophage dynamics in kidney repair: elucidation of a COX-2-dependent MafB pathway to affect macrophage differentiation

David P. Basile

Summary: During the repair phase of acute kidney injury, there is an increase in the expression of cylocloxygenase-2 in proresolving macrophages (M2). The production of prostaglandin E2 in macrophages and the signaling through the E-type prostanoid receptor 4 stimulate the expression of the anti-inflammatory transcription factor MafB, which is essential for macrophage differentiation and mediation of the intrinsic repair response following acute kidney injury.

Resistin, TNF-α, and microRNA 124-3p expressions in peripheral blood mononuclear cells are associated with diabetic nephropathy

Amin Monjezi et al.

Summary: The study investigated mRNA expression of resistin, TNF-alpha, and miR-124-3p in PBMCs of diabetic patients with and without nephropathy. Results showed increased resistin and TNF-alpha expression in patients with nephropathy, while decreased miR-124-3p expression. These genes may serve as predictive biomarkers for diabetic nephropathy.

FoxM1 promotes Wnt/β-catenin pathway activation and renal fibrosis via transcriptionally regulating multi-Wnts expressions

Hongyan Xie et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that transcriptional factor FoxM1 plays a critical role in renal fibrosis by regulating the expression of multiple Wnt family members. Inhibition of FoxM1 can attenuate renal fibrosis, making it a potential therapeutic target. FoxM1 might act as a key switch in activating the β-catenin pathway and promoting renal fibrosis.

Macrophage phenotypes in tissue repair and the foreign body response: Implications for biomaterial-based regenerative medicine strategies

Karen E. Martin et al.

Summary: Macrophages are crucial for tissue repair and regenerative medicine, with recent studies indicating the importance of both M1 and M2 phenotypes. Technological advancements like single-cell RNA sequencing provide insights into macrophage heterogeneity, aiding in the rational design of biomaterials. Understanding the diverse roles of macrophages in tissue repair processes is essential for improving biomaterial-tissue integration and regeneration.

Long Noncoding RNA LINC01410 Suppresses Tumorigenesis and Enhances Radiosensitivity in Neuroblastoma Cells Through Regulating miR-545-3p/HK2 Axis

Liping Mou et al.

Summary: In neuroblastoma, LINC01410 was found to be highly expressed along with HK2, while miR-545-3p was lowly expressed. Interference of LINC01410 inhibited tumorigenesis and increased radiosensitivity through regulating the miR-545-3p/HK2 axis. MiR-545-3p was identified as a key player in reversing the effects of LINC01410 knockdown, and LINC01410 acted as a molecular sponge of miR-545-3p to regulate HK2 expression.

Silencing lncRNA LINC01410 suppresses cell viability yet promotes apoptosis and sensitivity to temozolomide in glioblastoma cells by inactivating PTEN/AKT pathway via targeting miR-370-3p

Tingkai Fu et al.

Summary: The study found that upregulation of LINC01410 in GBM cells promoted cell viability, while its silencing decreased viability. In TMZ-resistant GBM cells, increased expression of LINC01410 and drug resistance-related factors was observed, along with a decreased cell viability trend. However, silencing LINC01410 decreased the IC50 value, increased sensitivity and apoptosis in resistant cells, and led to upregulation of PTEN and downregulation of phosphorylated AKT.
