Prediction of Reduced Gait Speed Using 5-Time Sit-to-Stand Test in Healthy Older Adults

Daniela Cristina Carvalho de Abreu et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the accuracy of the 5-time stand-to-sit (5TSTS) test for identifying older adults with reduced gait speed. The results showed that the 5TSTS had moderate accuracy in discriminating reduced gait speed, and different cutoff points were identified for women and men with different gait speeds.

Global, Regional, and National Burden of Ischemic Stroke, 1990-2019

Quanquan Ding et al.

Summary: Based on the data, there are differences in the burden of ischemic stroke globally and regionally among different sexes, age groups, and social development indexes. The incidence rate, mortality, and disability-adjusted life-years of ischemic stroke increase with age, while the age-standardized death rate and age-standardized DALY rates increase most significantly in some regions.

Stroke care during the COVID-19 outbreak in Spain: the experience of Spanish stroke units

Maria Alonso de Lecinana et al.

Summary: During the first COVID-19 outbreak peak in Spain, there was a reduction in admissions for all stroke types, as well as in the number of stroke code activations and intravenous thrombolysis treatments. Participants reported delays in workflow metrics, along with a decrease in admissions to stroke units, outpatient clinics, and rehabilitation therapies. Specific pathways and protocols have been established for managing stroke patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection.

The Effects of Sit-to-Stand Training Combined with Real-Time Visual Feedback on Strength, Balance, Gait Ability, and Quality of Life in Patients with Stroke: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Seung-Jun Hyun et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that sit-to-stand training combined with real-time visual feedback significantly improved lower limbs muscle strength, balance, gait, and quality of life in stroke patients compared to classic sit-to-stand training. This suggests that using this combined approach could be an effective treatment method for stroke patients.

Distance-limited walk tests post-stroke: A systematic review of measurement properties

Darren Kai-Young Cheng et al.

Summary: This study synthesized 43 articles on test protocols and measurement properties of distance-limited walk tests in people post-stroke, finding the most evidence of reliability and validity for the 10-metre walk test at a comfortable pace. Walking speed and walkway surface influenced walking speed, and performance was correlated with measures of strength, balance, and physical activity.
