Danhua Mei et al.

Summary: This study proposes a hybrid plasma-catalytic system for steam reforming of tar compounds over honeycomb-based catalysts in a gliding arc discharge (GAD) reactor. The presence of Ni/γ-Al2O3 gives the best performance with high conversions of toluene and naphthalene, and yields of H2 and CO while inhibiting the formation of byproducts. Characterization of the used catalyst shows strong carbon resistance and excellent stability of the honeycomb material coated with Ni/γ-Al2O3.

The future of hydrogen energy: Bio-hydrogen production technology

Xianxian Xu et al.

Summary: The widespread use of non-renewable energy has led to serious environmental problems. Hydrogen, as a carbon-free fuel, is considered the most promising energy carrier for the future. However, the current production of hydrogen is dominated by fossil-based techniques, which have low conversion efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, finding green and sustainable production routes for hydrogen with low energy consumption and cost is crucial. Bio-hydrogen production technologies have environmental advantages and broad prospects, with each technique having its own advantages, challenges, and applicability.

A Review on Additives-assisted Ultrasound for Organic Pollutants Degradation

Xiaohui Lu et al.

Summary: Considerable attention has been paid to sonochemical advanced oxidation processes (SAOPs) for pollutants removal in the past 2 decades. SAOPs are effective methods for degrading refractory pollutants by generating free radicals such as •OH and •H through water pyrolysis, and high temperature and pressure in cavitation bubbles. Various additives have been used to enhance sonochemical pollutants degradation. This paper reviews the efficiency of ultrasound (US) alone and sono-hybrid systems in degrading pollutants, focusing on the reaction mechanisms of additives for improving degradation. Challenges and research needs for applying SAOPs for removing organic pollutants from aquatic systems are discussed.

Global vision from the thermodynamics of the effect of the bio-oil composition and the reforming strategies in the H2 production and the energy requirement

Leire Landa et al.

Summary: The study compares the yield of H-2 and by-products in the reforming of different oxygenates in bio-oil through thermodynamic analysis, focusing on steam reforming, oxidative steam reforming, and autothermal reforming. The results show that S/C = 5 and the temperature range of 610-644 degrees Celsius are the most suitable conditions for high equilibrium H-2 yield. Inert gas addition at a S/C ratio of 1.5 slightly increases hydrogen yield and decreases coke formation, but this effect is not significant for S/C ratios above 5.
