Controllably produce renewable jet fuel with high-density and low-freezing points from lignocellulose-derived cyclopentanone

Wuyu Wang et al.

Summary: This study presents a method for controllably producing renewable jet fuel with high-density and low-freezing point by condensing biomass-derived cyclopentanone and hydrodeoxygenation. The freezing point of the jet fuel decreases with increasing content of spirocyclic alkane, while the density increases gradually with content of tricyclic alkane.

High-Energy-Density Liquid Spiro-Norbornanes from Methylenenorbornane

Marina A. Rudakova et al.

Summary: We report a synthetic method for obtaining new spirohydrocarbons from a versatile norbornane derivative. Four new spiro-hydrocarbons and isomeric-related norbornanes were obtained in moderate or good yields. The introduction of a spiro-center has different effects depending on the nature of the carbocycles at the spiro-carbon atom. Spirocycloalkenes with two norbornane motifs at the spiro-center exhibit higher densities and energy densities compared to related hydrocarbons without a spiro-center and JP-10. These results provide insight and an opportunity for the development of new high-performance jet fuels.
