Application of Rough Neural Network to forecast oil production rate of an oil field in a comparative study

Amin Sheikhoushaghi et al.

Summary: This study employs a comparative approach to select appropriate neural network models for predicting oil production in an Iranian oil field. The results demonstrate that the Rough Neural Network (Rough NN) performs the best in predicting test data compared to other models. Additionally, the traditional Decline Curve Analysis (DCA) method is not accurate in predicting production after a long shut-in period.

A data-driven shale gas production forecasting method based on the multi-objective random forest regression

Liang Xue et al.

Summary: The study proposes a multi-objective random forest method to predict dynamic shale gas production data, utilizing geological and hydraulic fracturing properties as predictive input features. By determining appropriate hyperparameters, considering variable importance, and incorporating features such as initial peak production rate, the predictive accuracy can be significantly improved. Additionally, it is found that using more sample data with less measurement errors can increase the accuracy of the data-driven shale gas production model.

Practical CO2-WAG Field Operational Designs Using Hybrid Numerical-Machine-Learning Approaches

Qian Sun et al.

Summary: Machine-learning technologies have shown robust competences in solving petroleum engineering problems, such as history-matching and field development optimization. The hybrid numerical machine-learning workflow presented in this paper successfully addresses various optimization problems, including history-matching and CO2-WAG injection design. By coupling expert machine-learning proxies with a global optimizer, the workflow effectively learns high-dimensional nonlinear data structures and provides valuable insights for similar EOR projects.
