CO2 Activation over Nanoshaped CeO2 Decorated with Nickel for Low-Temperature Methane Dry Reforming

Kristijan Lorber et al.

Summary: The study found that the different morphologies of CeO2 can influence the activation ability of carbon dioxide during methane dry reforming. CeO2 cubes facilitate the formation of polydentate carbonate species, while CeO2 nanorods and nanospheres favor the formation of mono- and bidentate carbonate species. This plays an important role in product selectivity and surface sites in methane dry reforming reaction.

CO2 adsorption on the pristine and reduced CeO2 (111) surface: Geometries and vibrational spectra by first principles simulations

Noah Baumann et al.

Summary: The first principles simulations of carbon dioxide adsorbed on the ceria (CeO2) (111) surface were discussed in terms of structural features, stability, charge transfer, and vibrational modes, using different density functional theory methods. The electronic structure of the reduced ceria surface was obtained by introducing oxygen vacancies, and bent CO2 configurations near the surface oxygen vacancy were identified as the most stable minima. The concentration of oxygen vacancies on the surface directly impacts the relative stability of potential adsorption configurations, and the vibrational analyses showed promising agreement with previous theoretical and experimental results.

Bifunctional Ni-Ca based material for integrated CO2 capture and conversion via calcium-looping dry reforming

Jiawei Hu et al.

Summary: The research focuses on the development of a bifunctional Ni-Ca based material to enable isothermal capture and release of CO2, as well as in-situ conversion of CH4 into syngas in a single reactor. The addition of CeO2 helps combat inactive carbon accumulation and activate CO2 and CH4, leading to enhanced syngas production during cyclic CaLDRM. The bifunctional material successfully converts over 40% of CH4 and CO2 under thermodynamically unfavorable conditions.

Summary: This study evaluated the volumetric hydrogen content in the gaseous mixture released from the steam catalytic gasification of n-C-7 asphaltenes and resins II at low temperatures, using four nanocatalysts. CeNi1Pd1 showed the highest performance in hydrogen production, reaching up to 44%. As the temperature increased, the hydrogen production also increased.

Large-scale triaxial experimental investigation of geomechanical dilation start-up for SAGD dual horizontal wells in shallow heavy oil reservoirs

Xiaohua Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) dilation start-up technology through true triaxial stress physical modeling experiments in the laboratory. The experimental results show that dilation start-up can significantly reduce well communication time, increase dilation zone range, and improve dilation zone uniformity along horizontal wellbores. Furthermore, dilation pressure is found to be a key factor influencing the dilation effect in SAGD start-up.

Facet-dependent stability of near-surface oxygen vacancies and excess charge localization at CeO2 surfaces

Patricia Perez-Bailac et al.

Summary: The study investigates the dependence of the relative stability of surface and subsurface oxygen vacancies in CeO2 on crystal facets. The results show that the preference of vacancies for surface or subsurface sites is facet- and concentration-dependent, with corresponding locations of Ce3+ polarons. The stability of vacancies on different facets is influenced by packing density, lattice relaxation effects, and localization of excess charge.
