Elucidation of the reaction mechanism of indirect oxidative carbonylation of methanol to dimethyl carbonate on Pd/NaY catalyst: Direct identification of reaction intermediates

Chunzheng Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, the reaction mechanism of methanol gas-phase indirect oxidative carbonylation for dimethyl carbonate (DMC) synthesis was investigated using a NaY zeolite catalyst doped with 1.0 wt% Pd. The reaction intermediates CO* and COOCH3* were identified and COOCH3* was determined as the rate-determining step. A Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism was proposed to explain the reaction process.

Synergistic Lewis acid and Pd active sites of metal-organic frameworks for highly efficient carbonylation of methyl nitrite to dimethyl carbonate

Han-Ying Wu et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been used as efficient catalysts for the carbonylation of methyl nitrite (MN) to dimethyl carbonate (DMC), showing a synergistic effect between Lewis acid and Pd(ii) active sites. The incorporation of Lewis acid sites in MOFs enhances CO adsorption and facilitates the generation of COOCH3* intermediates, resulting in improved catalytic performance.

Mechanical pressure-mediated Pd active sites formation in NaY zeolite catalysts for indirect oxidative carbonylation of methanol to dimethyl carbonate

Chunzheng Wang et al.

Summary: This study reveals the impact of mechanical compression on Pd/NaY catalysts, which enhances the selectivity of the oxidative carbonylation of methanol to DMC by controlling the ratio of Pd species. The Pd clusters obtained under mechanical treatment show excellent catalytic performance, highlighting the importance of considering structural changes in metal-containing zeolite catalysts in heterogeneous catalysis.
