Stress distribution in a powder column under uniaxial compression

Amalia Thomas et al.

Summary: The distribution of stresses transmitted by compressed powder onto the containing vessel base and side walls is investigated in this study. It is found that a uniform pressure on the base is only achieved when the compressed powder column is taller than a critical value. Additionally, high radial stresses are measured on the vessel side wall in the region below the piston.

Experimental study on the alumina fine powder internal compression characteristics under gas pressurization

Shicheng Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that the pressurization rate affects the compression characteristics of powder beds, with different positions in the beds exhibiting different compression characteristics and the compression ratio increasing with bed depth. A prediction model for relative compaction density variation was established based on the research results.

Experimental study on the effects of particle characteristics and pressurization methods on powder compression

Shicheng Wang et al.

Summary: Both particle characteristics and pressurization methods have a significant impact on powder compression behavior. The compressibility of powder with different average particle sizes, sphericity, and adhesion was experimentally investigated. The results show that smaller particle size, higher sphericity, and greater adhesion lead to higher compressibility of the powder. Gas pressurization has a smaller effect on powder compression compared to mechanical pressurization. The relationship between normal stress and gas pressurization rate was proposed, and the mechanism of different pressurization methods was discussed.

Biomass feeding in a dilute pneumatic conveying system

Thais L. C. Gomes et al.

Summary: The study designed a feeding system for controlling biomass flow rate and evaluated the feeding efficiency of different biomasses under various conditions. Low bulk density biomass showed higher feeding efficiencies at lower silo heights, while high-density biomass performed better at greater heights.

Analyzing bulk density and void fraction: B. Effect of moisture content and compression pressure

Haim Kalman et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of moisture content and compression pressure on bed void fraction in different materials. The Archimedes number was identified as a suitable parameter for describing particle behavior, as well as the effects of moisture content and compression pressure. General equations were developed to assess liquid bridge forces in solid and porous particles, as well as describe compressed particulate beds based on the Heckel model. The study also examined the compression of wet particles, with the general equations aligning well with experimental values.

Flow behavior characterization of biomass Feedstocks

Ziwei Cheng et al.

Summary: The key to successful biomass handling processes lies in understanding the flow behavior of different feedstocks as functions of critical material properties, environmental conditions, and processing parameters. Factors such as particle size, shape, moisture, temperature, and handling equipment all substantially influence biomass flowability. Current limitations in studies and potential methods to overcome them have been presented.
