Quenching distance, wall heat flux and CO/NO thermochemical states in the wall vicinity of laminar premixed biogas-hydrogen impinging flame

Zhilong Wei et al.

Summary: The quenching distance, wall heat flux, and pollutant thermochemical states of laminar premixed biogas-hydrogen impinging flame were investigated at different equivalence ratios. Results indicate that the characteristics of the flame varied with the equivalence ratio, influencing the NO emissions. The study highlights the importance of prompt and NNH routes on NO production in downsized combustors.

Modelling of the gas-turbine colorless distributed combustion: An application to hydrogen enriched - kerosene fuel

Mustafa Ilbas et al.

Summary: This study investigates the distributed regime of hydrogen-enriched kerosene combustion in a gas turbine combustion chamber. By utilizing advanced combustion techniques such as colorless distributed combustion (CDC), the flame temperature can be controlled and the NOX emissions reduced, allowing gas turbines to operate with hydrogen enrichment within wider flammability limits.

Unsteady ultra-lean combustion of methane and biogas in a porous burner - An experimental study

Rabeeah Habib et al.

Summary: The study investigates the response of ultra-lean flames stabilized in a porous burner to fluctuations imposed on the fuel flow rate, showing that the flame oscillations qualitatively follow the temporal variation in fuel flow but with higher amplitudes for methane compared to biogas. Exposure of the burner to fuel fluctuations for a long time leads to flame destabilization, while stable combustion can be achieved for methane mixtures within certain amplitude ranges. The study also highlights the significant effects of unsteady heat transfer in porous media on flame position fluctuations.

Experimental and numerical investigation of biogas distributed combustion with different oxidizers in a swirl stabilized combustor

Mustafa Ilbas et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the combustion characteristics of biogas under different oxidizers in a swirl combustor. The results show similar trends in temperature distributions between experimental measurements and numerical predictions when using different oxidizers. Combustion using 100% O2 is found to have higher temperature values, starting faster and more efficiently.

Feasibility of biogas and oxy-fuel combustion in steam cracking furnaces: Experimental and computational study

Yu Zhang et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the feasibility of biogas air-fuel combustion and natural gas oxy-fuel in steam cracking furnaces, investigating four cases experimentally and numerically. The impact of CO2 dilution on heat flux distribution is found to be minor, while discrepancies were observed in oxy-fuel combustion simulation predictions compared to experimental results. Adjusting model parameters and conducting additional experiments are necessary for further validation of the numerical model.

NO emission from non-premixed MILD combustion of biogas-syngas mixtures in opposed jet configuration

Selsabil Boussetla et al.

Summary: This paper explores NO emissions from MILD combustion of a mixture of biogas and syngas, considering five NO routes and various operating conditions. It is found that hydrogen enhances temperature levels under MILD regime, while oxygen increase leads to disappearance of MILD regime. The reburning route is identified as the third most significant route in NO production, influenced by all parameters except strain rate.

Experimental investigations of equivalence ratio effect on nonlinear dynamics features in premixed swirl-stabilized combustor

Zhuming Rao et al.

Summary: In this study, the dynamics of pressure oscillations and flame behaviors in a premixed swirl-stabilized combustor were experimentally investigated. Different combustion states were distinguished based on acoustic pressures and flame dynamics. The use of permutation entropy and proper orthogonal decomposition proved effective in analyzing signal complexities and spatial images of chemiluminescence.

Flame and instability characteristics of high hydrogen content gas mixtures

Harun Yilmaz et al.

Summary: This study investigated combustion and emission characteristics of different gas mixtures in a laboratory-scale combustor, as well as the flame response to acoustic perturbations. Results showed significant differences in NO emissions between gas mixtures, and the onset of flame instability was found to be independent of gas composition. Additionally, pressure and heat release rate oscillations weakened as hydrogen content in the gas mixture increased.

Muhammed S. Abdallah et al.

Summary: The study investigated the combustion characteristics of biogas under partially premixed mode and evaluated the stability of flames using a concentric flow slot burner. The results showed that LD10 is the optimum premixing ratio to generate a stable biogas flame at all tested CO2 proportions, while increasing the CO2 content led to a weak and unstable flame.
