Transgenerational metabolic disorders and reproduction defects induced by benzo[a]pyrene in Xenopus tropicalis

Marie Usal et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that exposure to endocrine disruptor benzo[a]pyrene can induce delayed metamorphosis, fatty liver, and disrupted metabolism in F2 offspring of Xenopus tropicalis, ultimately leading to population collapse. These findings suggest a potential transgenerational impact of endocrine disruptors on metabolism in amphibians, supporting the link between environmental endocrine disruptors and metabolic diseases in humans.

Proteins from Rhinella jimi parotoid gland secretion: A comprehensive analytical approach

Leonardo Santos Alexandre et al.

Summary: Toad skin secretions are rich sources of bioactive compounds, with Rhinella jimi species in the Brazilian northeast being a common toad with limited known studies. An experimental design optimized the protein extraction method from R. jimi parotoid gland secretions, revealing differences in protein abundance between toads from Teresina and Picos. The protein extract from Teresina showed higher cytotoxicity on tumor cell lines 4T1 and CT26.WT, indicating potential for future research on the biological activity of biomolecules from this species.
