Near threshold nucleation and growth of cavitation bubbles generated with a picosecond laser

Vid Agrez et al.

Summary: For the first time, the nucleation and growth of micrometer-sized cavitation bubbles in water generated by a 60 ps 515 nm fiber laser were observed and visualized. Two types of cavitation events were identified and visualized, showing a significant difference in excitation energy converted to mechanical effects. This finding has potential positive implications for laser treatments of biological tissue.

Changes in structure, rheological property and antioxidant activity of soy protein isolate fibrils by ultrasound pretreatment and EGCG

Xiaohong Tong et al.

Summary: Ultrasound pretreatment enhances the formation of soy protein fibrils, interaction with EGCG, and antioxidant activity of the complex. The study also found that EGCG can improve the bioaccessibility of EGCG when complexed with protein fibrils, highlighting the potential of soy protein fibril hydrogels as delivery carriers for bioactive compounds.

Quantifying OH radical generation in hydrodynamic cavitation via coumarin dosimetry: Influence of operating parameters and cavitation devices

Sebastien J. De-Nasri et al.

Summary: This study quantified the generation of hydroxyl (OH) radicals in a vortex-based cavitation device using coumarin dosimetry. The influence of operating parameters such as pH, type of acid used, dissolved oxygen, and inlet and outlet pressures was investigated. The results showed that acidic pH and sulfuric acid were more conducive to generating OH radicals. The vortex-based cavitation device outperformed other commonly used cavitation devices in terms of initial per-pass factor. Device scale also had an impact on performance.

Fructans with different degrees of polymerization and their performance as carrier matrices of spray dried blue colorant

Maria Isabel Landim Neves et al.

Summary: In this study, inulin-type fructans with different degrees of polymerization were used as wall materials for the blue colorant, with inulins being more efficient carriers. Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) and GR-In showed higher retention of free genipin compared to HP-In, with their lower DP influencing rehydration proprieties, color intensity, and colorant power. The DP of the fructans had a strong impact on the blue intensity and rehydration capacity of the samples.

Inulin/fructooligosaccharides/pectin-based structured systems: Promising encapsulating matrices of polyphenols recovered from jabuticaba peel

Adriana Gadioli Tarone et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of fructooligosaccharides and inulin with different degrees of polymerization on the rheological, physical, and microstructural properties of pectin-based structured systems and their performance as encapsulating matrices. The addition of inulin improved the apparent viscosity, consistency index, and antioxidant capacity of the samples. Inulin chain size contributed to the gradual improvement in system reordering.
