Transcriptomic analysis of inhibition by eugenol of ochratoxin A biosynthesis and growth of Aspergillus carbonarius

Nan Jiang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of eugenol on OTA production and mycelial growth of A. carbonarius. The results showed that eugenol significantly inhibited OTA production and caused morphological changes in spores and mycelia. Transcriptomic analysis identified differentially expressed genes associated with eugenol treatment. Additionally, eugenol disrupted cell integrity and induced oxidative stress in A. carbonarius.

Comparison of Performance of Cold Atmospheric Plasma and Biocides on the Inactivation of Alternaria sp.

Clodomiro Alves-Junior et al.

Summary: This article investigates the inactivation of Alternaria sp. using cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) and compares the results with two conventional techniques. The findings indicate that specific plasma treatment duration and voltage pulse can effectively inactivate Alternaria sp. spores. Conventional treatment methods require higher concentrations of NaDCC to achieve similar inactivation.

Factors influencing the antimicrobial efficacy of Dielectric Barrier Discharge (DBD) Atmospheric Cold Plasma (ACP) in food processing applications

Ehsan Feizollahi et al.

Summary: Atmospheric cold plasma (ACP) is an emerging technology in the food industry with great potential for improving food safety and extending shelf life. Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) is a popular method for generating ACP and has proven successful in microbial decontamination of foods. The antimicrobial efficacy of DBD ACP is influenced by various factors, making it important to critically review the impact of process, product, and microbiological factors.

Decontamination of whole strawberry via dielectric barrier discharge cold plasma and effects on quality attributes

Maryam Ahmadnia et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) cold plasma on decontamination and quality characteristics of strawberries, finding that a 20-minute treatment significantly reduced microbial counts without affecting texture or color, demonstrating superiority over untreated samples. Therefore, DBD cold plasma treatment is an effective way to prolong the shelf life of strawberries.

Generation and characterization of atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge air plasma and its antifungal potential: a case study on Alternaria alternata

Ali A. Alhazime

Summary: The research evaluated the generation and characterization of 26 kHz-atmospheric pressure dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) air plasma (DBD-AP) and its potential antifungal action against the pathogenic fungus Alternaria alternata. With increasing applied voltage, the visual and emission spectra intensities of DBD-AP increased, along with enhanced presence of NO and N2 bands in the emission spectra. Exposure to DBD-AP led to significant reduction in A. alternata growth and disruption of fungal cells structure over time.
