Nanohybrid silver nanoparticles@halloysite nanotubes coated with polyphosphazene for effectively enhancing the fire safety of epoxy resin

Jing Hong et al.

Summary: The hierarchical dots-core-shell structure Ag@HNT@PZE, combining the catalytic degradation of toxic gases by Ag and enhanced dispersion and flame retardant efficiency by PZE, effectively reduced the flammability and smoke toxicity of EP nanocomposites. The composite exhibited improved fire safety properties with higher LOI, UL-94 grade, and char yield, along with a significant decrease in pHRR and increased graphitized char layer formation. The use of Ag nanoparticles within HNT for catalyzing gas conversion and PZE coating for enhancing flame retardant properties provides a potential solution for developing efficient flame retardants for nanocomposites.
