Hoechst 33342 as a marker for imaging neurites of Dorsal Root Ganglion in vitro

Antonio Merolli et al.

Summary: H33342 is a widely used fluorescent DNA marker that can visualize neurites, with good signal-to-noise ratio in fixed samples. It also binds specifically to P-gp, an important transmembrane protein involved in active pump-out of molecules from the cytoplasm, which has implications for DRG and other cells. Its practical value lies in its widespread use and affordability compared to other fluorescent markers.

A smart cauliflower-like carrier for astaxanthin delivery to relieve colon inflammation

Xuedi Zhang et al.

Summary: By constructing cauliflower-like carriers (CCs), the biocompatibility and stability of astaxanthin were enhanced, and the CCs exhibited targeted delivery properties. In vitro and in vivo studies demonstrated that the astaxanthin-loaded CCs improved internalization, inhibited oxidative stress-induced reactive oxygen species production and mitochondrial depolarization, relieved colitis, suppressed inflammation factors expression, and increased the abundance of beneficial bacteria in the intestine.

Chitosan oligosaccharide/alginate nanoparticles as an effective carrier for astaxanthin with improving stability, in vitro oral bioaccessibility, and bioavailability

Feuangthit Niyamissara Sorasitthiyanukarn et al.

Summary: In this study, ATX-loaded chitosan oligosaccharide/alginate nanoparticles (ATX-COANPs) were successfully fabricated with optimized conditions. These nanoparticles exhibited good stability and sustained release characteristics under various conditions. Encapsulation within COANPs led to increased in vitro bioaccessibility, bioavailability, and antioxidant activity of ATX, suggesting potential applications in developing an effective oral delivery system for nutraceuticals or functional foods.

Preparation and Evaluation of Undaria pinnatifida Nanocellulose in Fabricating Pickering Emulsions for Protection of Astaxanthin

Yu Li et al.

Summary: In this study, astaxanthin-loaded Pickering emulsions were successfully prepared using cellulose nanofibers from Undaria pinnatifida. The cellulose nanofibers had a high aspect ratio and dispersibility, effectively preventing droplet aggregation. Stable emulsions were obtained through optimization and showed good stability at high temperature and long-term storage. In vitro digestion simulation demonstrated that the emulsions released more free fatty acids and had higher bioaccessibility of astaxanthin compared to sunflower oil.

Dual targeting procyanidin nanoparticles with glutathione response for colitis treatment

Shanshan Tie et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study is to design a nanoparticle with dual targeting and glutathione response for delivering procyanidin to effectively treat inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The results showed that the procyanidin nanoparticles had good mitochondrial targeting ability and significant colon accumulation in vivo. The nanoparticles also demonstrated significant glutathione stimulus release and improved disease activity index, oxidative stress level, gut microbiota composition, and short chain fatty acids abundance.
