Terahertz spectroscopy of temperature-induced transformation between glutamic acid, pyroglutamic acid and racemic pyroglutamic acid

Zhenqi Zhu et al.

Summary: This study characterized the thermal chemical reactions of L-Glutamic acid using terahertz time domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). The results showed that the reaction rate of dehydration and racemization is significantly influenced by temperature. The absorption intensity at 0.97 and 1.55 THz was found to have a nonlinear relationship with reaction temperature and time.

Terahertz spectroscopy for interpreting the formation and hierarchical structures of silk fibroin oligopeptides

Yujing Bian et al.

Summary: In this study, we utilized nondestructive terahertz time-domain spectroscopy combined with density functional theory (DFT) and potential energy distribution (PED) analysis to identify the hierarchical structures of silk fibroin oligopeptides. By analyzing the characteristic THz spectra and vibrational modes of the peptides, we were able to successfully interpret the peptide formation mechanism and provide guidance in understanding the formation of silk.

Single nanoparticle identification coupled with auto-identify algorithm for rapid and accurate detection of L-histidine

Shuting Chen et al.

Summary: An auto-identify sensor was developed for rapid and accurate detection of L-histidine using an algorithm and cu+ catalyzed reaction. The color change induced by the aggregation of gold nanoparticles and the Meanshift algorithm allowed for precise and automatic quantification of L-histidine. This method was successfully applied in serum samples with satisfactory results.

Amino acid-functionalized chitosan beads for in vitro copper ions uptake in the presence of histidine

Thiago B. Taketa et al.

Summary: Chitosan-based materials were shown to have enhanced copper ion adsorption capacity in the presence of histidine, with amino acid functionalization promoting an increase in adsorption capacity. The order of addition of histidine to the system influenced the adsorption behavior, and simultaneous addition of chitosan and histidine prevented a decrease in adsorption capacity.

Enantioselective recognition of amino acid based on electrochemical deposition and X-ray diffraction technology

Hui Chong et al.

Summary: The addition of D-Asp during the electrochemical deposition of Bismuth film resulted in the generation of a new diffraction peak in XRD spectrum, enabling enantioselective recognition of D- and L-Asp. Different lattice plane diffraction peak intensity ratios in electrodeposited Copper films with D- or L-Asp indicated chirality-induced binding capabilities influencing film growth. The combination of electrochemical deposition and XRD technology allowed for detection limits of 1.5 x 10-10 and 1.2 x 10-11 mol L-1 for D- and L-Asp, respectively.

A Quantitative Interpretation for the Difference of Terahertz Spectra of DL- and L-Alanine: Origins of Infrared Intensities in Terahertz Spectroscopy

Feng Zhang et al.

Summary: The study used solid-state density functional theory to calculate the THz spectra of DL- and L-alanine, revealing their similarities and differences. Two critical aspects regarding the intensities of the THz bands were identified, showing that the THz normal modes are dominated by intermolecular translations and influenced by the polarization effect. These findings provide a deeper understanding of the spectral differences observed in the absorption spectra.

Terahertz, infrared and Raman absorption spectra of tyrosine enantiomers and racemic compound

Meidie Hu et al.

Summary: The study utilized THz-based techniques to investigate the properties of tyrosine enantiomers, revealing similar but distinct absorption spectra for solid L-Tyr and D-Tyr compared to DL-Tyr. Interestingly, solutions of L-Tyr and D-Tyr showed no observable peaks, while a solution containing equal amounts of both enantiomers exhibited a similar spectrum to the DL-Tyr solution. Principal component analysis was used to confirm the differences between L-/D-Tyr and DL-Tyr.
