The BlueScreen HC assay to predict the genotoxic potential of fragrance materials

Yax Thakkar et al.

Summary: BlueScreen HC is a reliable assay for measuring the genotoxicity and cytotoxicity of chemical compounds and mixtures. It can be used as a screening tool, supporting evidence and to adjust toxicological concern threshold. The assay has high reliability but poor positive predictivity.

Fragrance Skin Sensitization Evaluation and Human Testing: 30-Year Experience

Mihwa Na et al.

Summary: The Human Repeated Insult Patch Test (HRIPT) has been widely used in the fragrance industry to confirm the absence of skin sensitization at a defined dose. After accumulated experience of over 30 years, most studies have shown that sensitization was not induced at the selected HRIPT dose, but a minority of cases exist. New sensitization induction is rare but important as an indicator that toxicological predictions from nonhuman test methods can be imperfect.
