Application of dietary supplements in the prevention of type 2 diabetes-related cardiovascular complications

Yannan Jin et al.

Summary: Type 2 diabetes, caused by lowered sensitivity of insulin receptors, is a major global health issue without a cure. Maintaining glycaemic control and preventing complications through healthy diet is important. Various dietary compounds may play a role in prevention of diabetes-related complications, with mechanisms including reduced sugar uptake, restored insulin function, and attenuation of oxidative stress and chronic inflammation.

Glycorandomization: A promising diversification strategy for the drug development

Bharat Goel et al.

Summary: Glycorandomization is a natural product derivatization strategy that involves linking different sugar moieties to the aglycone part of glycosides to create glycorandomized libraries, which can improve drug solubility, mechanism of action, toxicity, and target recognition; this technology can be implemented through synthetic or chemoenzymatic approaches and has the potential to generate new compounds for treating diseases.

Synthesis of MeON-Glycoside Derivatives of Oleanolic Acid by Neoglycosylation and Evaluation of Their Cytotoxicity against Selected Cancer Cell Lines

Zhichao Du et al.

Summary: C-3 and C-28 MeON-neoglycosides of oleanolic acid designed and synthesized through neoglycosylation exhibited notable inhibitory effects against human cancer cell lines, with compound 8a showing the most potent antiproliferative activities against HepG2 cells. Further pharmacological experiments revealed that compound 8a could induce morphological changes, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis in HepG2 cells, suggesting its potential as a rapid strategy for the discovery of antiproliferative agents.

Synthesis, anticancer evaluation and mechanism studies of novel indolequinone derivatives of ursolic acid

Wen-Yan Wang et al.

Summary: Novel indolequinone derivatives of ursolic acid bearing ester, hydrazide, or amide moieties were designed, synthesized, and screened for their in vitro antiproliferative activities. Among them, compound 6t exhibited potent activity against three cancer cell lines with low cytotoxicity to normal cells. The compound induced apoptosis in cancer cells and may target the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway, suggesting it as a promising lead for novel anticancer agents.
