RSM Optimization of Wool Dyeing withBerberis ThunbergiiDC Leaves as a New Source of Natural Dye

Aminoddin Haji et al.

Summary: This study optimized the dyeing parameters for wool using Berberis thunbergii DC leaves as a natural dye source, aiming to introduce a new sustainable coloration process. The results showed that increasing dye concentration and dyebath temperature increased color strength (K/S), while increasing dyebath pH and mordant concentration decreased K/S. The optimal pH, dye concentration, dyeing temperature, and mordant concentration for achieving the highest K/S were 5, 146%owf, 76°C, and 3.8%owf, respectively. The samples dyed under the optimal conditions exhibited good color fastness properties.

Correlation studies in the oxidation of Vanillin Schiff bases by acid bromate-A kinetic and semi-empirical approach

T. Sathish et al.

Summary: This study investigates the kinetics and mechanistic aspects of the oxidation of Vanillin Schiff bases (obtained from Vanillin and p-substituted anilines) by bromate in acid medium. The reaction follows a first order in bromate, less than unity order in Vanillin Schiff base, and acid. The reaction rate increases with a decrease in the dielectric constant of the medium. Electron withdrawing substituents in the aniline ring moiety accelerate the rate of oxidation, while electron releasing substituents retard the rate. The reactivity trend of the substrates is correlated with calculated descriptors such as electronegativity, chemical potential, electrophilicity index, chemical hardness, and frontier molecular orbitals.

A hybrid artificial intelligence model to predict the color coordinates of polyester fabric dyed with madder natural dye

Morteza Vadood et al.

Summary: This study created a database by evaluating the color of polyester fabrics dyed with madder root at different dyeing conditions. Statistical analysis was conducted to analyze the relations between dyeing parameters and color coordinates, and models were established using linear regression and artificial neural network (ANN). The results showed that ANN with two, one, and two hidden layers accurately predicted the color coordinates. Additionally, a multi-objective optimization method was used to determine the dyeing parameters for achieving the desired color, and the proposed method demonstrated high efficiency in comparison with the actual dyeing parameters.
