Stochastic assembly line balancing: General bounds and reliability-based branch-and-bound algorithm

Johannes Diefenbach et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the assembly line balancing problem with stochastic task times. A sampling approach is developed to ensure line reliability. The research proves that lower bounds for the related deterministic problem can be transformed into lower bounds for the sampling formulation. The study exemplifies the use of these bounds in a reliability-based branch-and-bound algorithm and proposes effective fathoming strategies based on the transformed lower bounds or direct consideration of line reliability.

A multi-state network to evaluate network reliability with maximal and minimal capacity vectors by using recursive sum of disjoint products

Ding-Hsiang Huang et al.

Summary: This paper presents a multi-state network (MSN) model for evaluating network reliability in real-life applications using both maximal and minimal capacity vectors. The proposed model can be integrated into expert systems for project networks, manufacturing, and supply chain. The study introduces a more efficient procedure based on the sum of disjoint products (SDP) principle and a simplified recursive function for reliability evaluation. Results show that the SDP-based procedure outperforms the traditional approach in terms of efficiency, achieving significant speed improvements.

Capturing the interaction between travel time reliability and route choice behavior based on the generalized Bayesian traffic model

Zheng Zhu et al.

Summary: Travel time reliability is crucial in travelers' route choice behaviors. This study proposes various types of perceived knowledge in a generalized Bayesian traffic model to analyze travelers' daily route choices regarding travel time reliability. The results show that different types of perceived knowledge may lead to distinct route choice dynamics, but all ultimately converge to fixed points.

Wei-Chang Yeh et al.

Summary: The evaluation of network reliability of an AMIN is crucial in determining the performance and quality of the overall network. The universal generation function method has successfully resolved the NP-hard problem, but is limited to small-scale problems. An improved binary addition tree algorithm is proposed to effectively evaluate the reliability of AMIN in this study.

An improved bounding algorithm for approximating multistate network reliability based on state-space decomposition method

Tao Liu et al.

Summary: Evaluation of two-terminal multistate network reliability is a NP-hard problem. Approximating reliability bounds with state space decomposition is effective for large-scale networks, but preset critical values for filtering unspecified states may be hard to predict. A serial bounding algorithm based on breadth-first mechanism is proposed to improve efficiency and stability in approximating multistate network reliability.
