The deleterious effect of xylene-induced ear edema in rats: Protective role of dexketoprofen trometamol transdermal invasomes via inhibiting the oxidative stress/NF-ΚB/COX-2 pathway

Sara M. Soliman et al.

Summary: This study developed invasomes to enhance the transdermal transport of Dexketoprofen trometamol (DKT) for efficient anti-inflammatory and pain management. The optimal formulation (C1) showed desirable characteristics such as high encapsulation efficiency, small size, and negative surface charge. Compared to conventional gel, the invasomal gel formulation (C1-G) significantly increased the flux and deposition of DKT in skin layers. In a rat model of xylene-induced ear edema, C1-G demonstrated improved anti-inflammatory effects by reducing COX-2 levels, oxidative stress, and inflammatory markers. This suggests that C1-G could be a promising transdermal drug delivery system for DKT.

Enhancing Permeation of Drug Molecules Across the Skin via Delivery in Nanocarriers: Novel Strategies for Effective Transdermal Applications

Yi-Qun Yu et al.

Summary: The transdermal route of administration offers benefits such as reduced toxicity and sustained drug delivery, but is limited by the stratum corneum barrier. Nanocarriers provide a promising solution to enhance drug penetration, while physical methods like iontophoresis and microneedles can further improve transdermal drug delivery efficacy.
