Summary: This study compared the Hounsfield units (HU) value obtained from computed tomography and the t score of dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) in predicting lumbar spine bone mineral density (BMD). The results showed the potential of using CT measurements of HU to establish a threshold value for diagnosing osteoporosis. However, large-scale prospective studies are needed to confirm the reliability of CT-based BMD quantification and the prognostic value of CT evaluation.

Coronal Plane Gap Increases Postoperative Pseudoarthrosis after Lateral Interbody Fusion for Adult Spinal Deformity

Summary: This study evaluated the risk factors for pseudoarthrosis after LIF cage placement in adult spinal deformity treatment. The gap between the LIF cage and endplate in the coronal plane was found to be significantly associated with pseudoarthrosis at the LIF segments. The fusion rate using LIF cages at 12 months after surgery was 71.4%, with higher fusion rates seen on the concave slot filled with autologous iliac crest bone graft compared to the convex slot filled with a porous HAp/Col composite.
