Preparation and evaluation of PLA/PVP core-shell microparticles mat via single capillary electrospraying as a potential drug-loading material

Jiazi Hou et al.

Summary: Polymer microparticles with different morphologies were prepared by single capillary electrospraying, showing potential application in drug-loading. The shape of microparticles can be controlled by varying the ratios of polymers during the electrospraying process. The core-shell microparticles exhibited low toxicity to cells and could morph into different shapes for specific applications.

Washing-free chemiluminescence immunoassay for rapid detection of cardiac troponin I in whole blood samples

Huan Zhao et al.

Summary: A chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA) method was developed for the rapid detection of cardiac troponin I (cTnI) in whole blood samples without centrifugation. The method utilized magnetic particles with immobilized antibodies to capture antigens and erythrocytes, and polychloromethylstyrene microspheres (PCMS) for signal amplification. The CLIA method showed high sensitivity, broad linear range, and was not significantly interfered by endogenous substances, demonstrating great potential for clinical application.

Red blood cell-like magnetic particles and magnetic field promoted neuronal outgrowth by activating Netrin-1/DCC signaling pathway in vitro and in vivo

Meili Liu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that magnetic materials can effectively promote neuronal growth under magnetic field loading. Fe3O4@PLGA RBC-like MPs, with a red blood cell-like shape, were constructed and shown to significantly increase cell viability and growth indices in primary cultured cortical neurons when combined with magnetic field loading. Additionally, the protective effect of these magnetic particles and magnetic field loading was demonstrated in mice sciatic nerve injury.

ROMP of norbornene and oxanorbornene derivatives with pendant fluorophore carbazole and coumarin groups

Rubina Troiano et al.

Summary: A series of new (oxa)norbornene dicarboximide monomers, decorated with carbazole and coumarin as pendant fluorophore groups, were successfully polymerized by Grubbs' third generation catalyst G3 and cis-selective catalyst GZ. The nature of the spacer between the NDI unit and the chromophore did not affect the outcome of the polymerization. The polymers showed photoluminescence in solution and solid state, with a significant excimer emission observed for a carbazole-functionalized polymer film due to the high stereoregularity degree of the main chain.

Fabrication of porous chitosan particles using a novel two-step porogen leaching and lyophilization method with the label-free multivariate spectral assessment of live adhered cells

Angshuman Bharadwaz et al.

Summary: A novel two-step technique was used to fabricate porous chitosan particles, where the addition of porogen led to increased cell adhesion and proliferation on the porous structure compared to a control group without porogen. Raman spectroscopy-based multivariate spectral analysis showed inter-group variations in live cell biomarkers and cell behavior between the porous CS particle groups and the control.

Studies on preparation and formation mechanism of poly (lactide-co-glycolide) microrods via one-step electrospray and an application for drug delivery system

Junwei Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, uniformly sized microrods were fabricated via one-step electrospray using low viscosity, mainly low concentration, and low molecular weight poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) solutions. The microrods obtained had diameters of 0.5-2.0 μm and lengths of 4-20 μm when the concentration of the solution and molecular weight of the polymer were decreased. Moreover, the aspect ratio of the microrods decreased significantly with different experimental conditions.

Design and Stability Improvement of Pectin-Based Red Blood Cell-Mimicking Microcapsules for Oxygen Therapeutics

Summary: A pectin-oligochitosan microcapsule system has been developed for novel oxygen therapeutic design. The stability of the microcapsules in physiological conditions was improved by testing both covalent (glutaraldehyde) and non-covalent (Mn2+ and Ca2+) cross-linkers. Results showed that glutaraldehyde is an effective cross-linker that does not negatively impact the morphology of the microcapsules.
