This study investigates a light-driven 3-component sulfonylation reaction of indolizines without requiring an external photocatalyst. Mechanistic investigations support the in situ formation of an electron donor-acceptor (EDA) complex. This transformation offers a mild and sustainable approach with high functional group tolerance for synthesizing 3-sulfonylated indolizines, which have valuable photophysical properties and potential applications in fluorescence-related fields.
