This study evaluated the differential neurochemical sequelae in response to sepsis in two strains of mice. The results showed that BALB/c mice exhibited more severe sickness behavior and immune response, as well as greater changes in neurotransmitter metabolism. These findings suggest the need for further research on the neurotransmitter changes in septic encephalopathy and whether altered peripheral kynurenine metabolism can serve as a blood-based biomarker for sepsis.
