Economic feasibility of a solketal production process from glycerol at small industrial scale

Julian A. Vannucci et al.

Summary: This paper analyzes the technical and economic feasibility of industrial-scale production of solketal from glycerol. The study shows that the process is economically viable if the sale price of solketal is higher than 2,400 USD/t, even for small-scale plants. Additionally, reducing the cost of cooling water has a greater impact on profitability than prolonging the catalyst's useful life.

Catalyst and reactor design considerations for selective production of acids by oxidative cleavage of alkenes and unsaturated fatty acids with H2O2

Danim Yun et al.

Summary: Oxidative cleavage of alkenes and unsaturated fatty acids with hydrogen peroxide provides an efficient and sustainable method to obtain mono- and di-acids for polymers and lubricants. This process has fewer safety risks and environmental impacts compared to other methods. The use of W-based heterogeneous catalysts at low H₂O₂ concentrations in semi-batch reactors allows for high performance and stable operations. By predicting and optimizing the H₂O₂ feed rate, selectivity towards oxidative cleavage products can be increased.
