3 a,6 a-Diaza-1,4-Diphosphapentalenes: Synthesis and Complexation with the Organic π-Acceptor 1,2,4,5-Tetracyanobenzene

Natalia Zolotareva et al.

Summary: The reaction of PCl3 with diethyl ketazine and 4-phenylcyclohexanone azine produces 1,4-dichloro-3a,6a-diaza-1,4-diphosphapentalenes, which are then reduced by magnesium in THF to yield EtMeDDP and PhcHexDDP. These new diazadiphosphapentalenes, containing two-coordinate phosphorus atoms, exhibit strong electron donation properties with oxidation peak potentials at 0.34 and 0.10 V, respectively. Additionally, their interaction with TCNB forms sandwich complexes DDP-TCNB-DDP, which display unique molecular chains and short P...P contacts between DDP molecules, as well as (Csp(2)-H...N) contacts between TCNB molecules. Calculations show that each TCNB molecule accepts approximately 0.3e from two DDP molecules. The HOMO-LUMO gap, estimated from the onset of optical absorption, is determined to be 1.25 eV and 1.31 eV for [(EtMeDDP)(2)(TCNB)] and [(PhcHexDDP)(2)(TCNB)], respectively.

Chalcogen-Transfer Rearrangement: Exploring Inter- versus Intramolecular P-P Bond Activation

Roman Franz et al.

Summary: Stereochemically confined tert-butyl-substituted diphospha[2]ferrocenophane has been used to explore the addition of O, S, Se and Te, revealing a rearrangement mechanism that has been tracked through NMR spectroscopy and DFT calculations. Experimental results show a ferrocene-centred oxidation for most compounds.

Summary: The study investigated the reaction of various ketazines with phosphorus chloride, revealing the influence of the nature of the starting ketazine on the formation of 1,4-dichloro-3a,6a-diaza-1,4-diphosphapentalenes. Reduction reactions and cyclic voltammetry were used to determine the structure and properties of the obtained compounds, showing anomalous oxidation potentials for certain compounds.

Summary: This study reveals that the interaction of 1,4-dichloro-3a,6a-diaza-1,4-diphosphapentalenes with metallic Na or Li or the naphthalene-Na anion-radical salt in THF proceeds through several successive stages, ultimately resulting in a stable aromatic 1,2,3-azadiphospholide ion.

Interaction of dicoordinate phosphorus with boranes: chemistry of 3a,6a-diaza-1,4-diphosphapentalene as masked phosphinidene

Summary: Treatment of DDP with an excess of PhBCl2 yields the corresponding bis(borane) adduct, demonstrating two lone pairs on the phosphorus center; reaction between DDP and B(C6F5)(3) yields a phosphino-borane complex, with the free lone electron pair on the pyramidal P atom participating in intramolecular non-covalent interactions; the reaction of DDP with BH3 center dot SMe2 proceeds in several stages, resulting in the formation of diphosphine with a set of stereoisomers in solution.
