Numerical analysis of CFST-RC composite shear wall under axial compression and cyclic loads

Wei Shang et al.

Summary: The CFST-RC composite shear wall, combining the advantages of reinforced concrete shear walls and CFST columns, is a new and promising structure with excellent mechanical properties and seismic performance. This study validates the finite element model of CFST-RC shear walls through experimentation, investigates the effects of different structures and materials on mechanical properties, and proposes a simple method for calculating the elastic modulus. The findings provide technical support for the design and safe application of shear walls in practical engineering.

Experimental and numerical investigation of strengthening of openings in masonry walls using steel bars and steel wire mesh

Tarik El-Salakawy et al.

Summary: This research investigates the strengthening of brick masonry walls through experimental and numerical studies, demonstrating that the applied strengthening methods effectively compensate for the decrease in wall capacity due to openings. The numerical modeling results align well with the experimental findings, indicating the potential for using numerical approaches to study and design strengthening for load-bearing masonry walls in existing buildings with required wall openings.

Experimental investigation of bond-slip behavior of between-anchored steel strips to concrete surface

Yagmur Kopraman et al.

Summary: Reinforced concrete and masonry structures may require strengthening or retrofitting for various reasons, with steel elements widely preferred for such purposes. An experimental study proposed an innovative bond-slip material model between the existing concrete surface and steel strips, aiming to enhance the realistic calculation of structural bearing capacity and load-displacement behaviors in strengthening details. The study revealed significant effects of variables such as concrete compressive strength, epoxy thickness, loading type, anchor presence, and steel strip adhesion length on the structural bearing capacity values.

Performance of Strengthened, Reinforced Concrete Shear Walls with Opening

Hala Mamdouh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the behavior of reinforced concrete shear walls with openings of various sizes and positions strengthened using glass-fiber-reinforced-polymer sheets. The results show that the rate of stiffness degradation is reasonably low for strengthened walls with smaller openings, but significantly reduces with larger openings. The use of fiber-reinforced-polymer sheets improves the overall performance of the walls.

Hysteretic behavior of retrofitted RC shear wall with different damage levels by using steel strips

Anil Ozdemir et al.

Summary: This study investigated the extent to which performance levels can be increased after retrofitting reinforced concrete shear walls by using steel strips damaged at different levels under the effect of reversal cyclic lateral loading similar to earthquake loads. The ultimate load capacities, initial stiffness values, displacement ductility ratios, energy dissipation capacities, general load-displacement behaviors, and damage distributions were examined in detail as a result of the tests of reinforced concrete shear wall test specimens produced on a one-to-one scale. The effects of the retrofitting technique developed using steel strips on the performance of damaged reinforced concrete shear walls were interpreted.

Experimental and numerical studies on the seismic performance of superimposed reinforced concrete shear walls with insulation

Qing Jiang et al.

Summary: A new type of SRCSWI is proposed in this study, which has better bearing and insulation performance compared to traditional CRCSW and SRCSW. Experimental results show that the failure modes of SRCSWI are similar to traditional shear walls, but there are differences in crack distribution and plastic deformation. When comparing specimens with the same design axial load ratio, SRCSWI is basically consistent with traditional shear walls in terms of stiffness, ductility, and carrying capacity.
