Value of Somatostatin Receptor PET/CT in Patients With MEN1 at Various Stages of Their Disease

Clement Mennetrey et al.

Summary: This study assesses the indications and value of SSTR PET/CT in patients with MEN1, and finds that SSTR PET has potential added value in the assessment of MEN1-associated NETs, providing impetus for its implementation in patient evaluation.

Diagnosing pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors in patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 in daily practice

Dirk-Jan van Beek et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the diagnostic accuracy of conventional pancreatic imaging techniques and the added value of fine needle aspirations (FNA) in diagnosing MEN1-related pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PanNETs). MRI was found to have higher accuracy than CT in diagnosing PanNETs, making it the preferred non-invasive imaging modality. The high diagnostic accuracy of pancreatic imaging and the sporadic occurrence of pancreatic adenocarcinoma raise questions about the need for routine FNA.

MEN1 Surveillance Guidelines: Time to (Re)Think?

Paul J. Newey et al.

Summary: This article discusses the clinical practice guidelines for patients with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) and the role of screening for presymptomatic tumors. The article highlights the current uncertainties and challenges and advocates for a screening approach that acknowledges these limitations and uncertainties, placing the patient at the heart of the decision-making process.

Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 1

Rachel S. Van Leeuwaarde et al.

Summary: Patients with MEN1 have lower health-related quality of life scores compared to the general Dutch population, with employment status being the most consistent predictor for HRQOL, followed by the presence of a pituitary tumor. Some patients with pNET or pituitary tumors were unaware of their condition, and these patients had better QOL scores compared to those who were aware of their tumors. These findings highlight the importance of addressing the impaired QOL in MEN1 patients in routine care.

Clinical aspects of multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1

Abdallah Al-Salameh et al.

Summary: Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) is a rare syndrome characterized by the co-occurrence of primary hyperparathyroidism, duodenopancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) and/or pituitary adenomas. Patients with MEN1 should undergo tailored biochemical and imaging screening. Knowledge about the clinical phenotype of these tumours has progressed over the past 10 years, particularly in France and the Netherlands.

The Impact of 68Gallium DOTA PET/CT in Managing Patients With Sporadic and Familial Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumours

Daniel J. Cuthbertson et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the role of (68)Gallium (Ga-68)-DOTA PET/CT in managing patients with panNETs, showing that the imaging findings provided additional information in 54% of patients and influenced management in 39% of cases. The PET/CT scan more accurately stages and guides treatment in patients with sporadic/familial panNETs.
