The T-N tract involvement as a new prognostic factor for PORT in locally advanced oral cavity tumors

Daniela Alterio et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of T-N tract involvement on postoperative radiotherapy outcomes in oral cavity tumors. The results showed that T-N tract involvement had no impact on overall survival and local recurrence in patients receiving radiotherapy, but it was associated with worse outcomes in patients not receiving radiotherapy. Radiotherapy improved survival and local recurrence in patients with positive T-N tract involvement, but not in those with negative T-N tract involvement. Therefore, T-N tract involvement should be considered as a prognostic factor for indicating radiotherapy.

Prevalence of submandibular gland involvement in neck dissection specimens of patients with oral cavity carcinoma

Alireza Mazarei et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the frequency of submandibular gland involvement in patients with oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The results showed that submandibular gland involvement is very rare in these patients, and therefore, it is not necessary to remove the gland. Preservation of the submandibular gland can prevent complications and improve the quality of life for patients after surgery.

Distribution and determinants of submandibular gland involvement in oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma

Summary: This study indicated a low incidence of submandibular gland involvement in oral cavity cancer patients undergoing neck dissection, typically seen in patients with high neck node burden (>= N2 disease and extracapsular spread) or direct invasion by the primary tumor.

Level I Nodal Positivity as a Factor for Involvement of the Submandibular Gland in Oral Cavity Carcinoma: A Case Series Report

Hamdan Ahmed Pasha et al.

Summary: The routine practice of neck dissection for oral carcinoma has shifted towards a more functionally conservative approach, questioning the need for submandibular gland removal. This study aimed to determine the incidence of submandibular gland metastases in oral cancer and identify potential factors affecting their involvement. Results showed that submandibular gland involvement occurred in 4.7% of cases, all of which also had level I lymph node involvement.
