The priming effect of diesel exhaust on native pollen exposure at the air-liquid interface

Joana Candeias et al.

Summary: Pollen related allergic diseases have been increasing, and diesel exhaust may play a role. This study explored the priming effects of diesel exhaust on native pollen exposure for the first time. The results showed that diesel exhaust can make cells react more rapidly to pollen exposure, especially inflammation-related genes. These findings provide guidance for investigating the impact of modern diesel exhaust exposure on the development of allergic diseases.

Impact of Thermal Stress on Abrasive Dust from a Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Composite

Arne Koch et al.

Summary: This study investigated the emission characteristics of toxic compounds and harmful fibers during dry-cutting after thermal exposure. The results showed no organic pollutants at high temperatures, but significant release of pyrolysis products from the organic fiber coating at lower temperatures. The fiber diameter decreased as the temperature exceeded 450 degrees C. Harmful fibers were observed at temperatures above 550 degrees C.

Korean Red Ginseng suppresses bisphenol A-induced expression of cyclooxygenase-2 and cellular migration of A549 human lung cancer cell through inhibition of reactive oxygen species

Heewon Song et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the protective effect of Korean Red Ginseng (KRG) on BPA-induced ROS generation, COX-2, and MMP-9 expression in A549 cells. The results showed that KRG significantly suppressed BPA-induced NF-κB activity, cell migration, and MMP-9 expression. This suggests a potential therapeutic application of KRG for BPA-induced inflammatory disorders.

Airborne particulate matter induces oxidative damage, DNA adduct formation and alterations in DNA repair pathways*

Ericka Marel Quezada-Maldonado et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the types of DNA damage and alterations in DNA repair pathways induced by PM exposure, showing that PM mainly causes oxidative stress and DNA damage through the formation of DNA adducts and DSBs, as well as deregulates the protein expression in DNA repair pathways. However, there are still limitations in the knowledge about the effects of PM on DNA repair pathways, and further research is needed to deepen our understanding.
