Dietary Exposure to Flame Retardant Tris (2-Butoxyethyl) Phosphate Altered Neurobehavior and Neuroinflammatory Responses in a Mouse Model of Allergic Asthma

Summary: This study investigated the effects of long-term exposure to TBEP on brain and behavior in mice. The results showed that TBEP exposure impaired memory function and led to changes in gene expression and inflammatory markers in the hippocampus. Furthermore, activation of mast cells and microglia was observed. These findings suggest that interactions between neurons, glia, and mast cells may play a role in TBEP-induced neurobehavioral toxicity.

Additional studies are recommended given the high burden of pediatric asthma and widespread exposure to BPA in the United States.
