Long-term chronic exposure to di-(2-ethylhexyl)-phthalate induces obesity via disruption of host lipid metabolism and gut microbiota in mice

Henghai Su et al.

Summary: DEHP exposure through diet leads to abnormal lipid metabolism and obesity in mice. It also alters the gut microbiota composition and increases the production of short chain fatty acids through fermentation in the intestine.

Multi-omits profiling and biochemical assays reveal the acute toxicity of environmental related concentrations of Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) on the gill of crucian carp (Carassius auratus)

Yingjie Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the acute exposure of crucian carp gills to DEHP at environmentally relevant concentrations and revealed the toxicological mechanisms involved. The results showed that DEHP exposure leads to oxidative stress in gills, causing overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxidation. Additionally, DEHP interferes with the CYP450 enzyme system in the gills, leading to toxicity. This study broadens our understanding of DEHP-induced gill toxicity in aquatic organisms and provides new perspectives for assessing the effects of DEHP on target and non-target aquatic organisms in the environment.

System Biology-Guided Chemical Proteomics to Discover Protein Targets of Monoethylhexyl Phthalate in Regulating Cell Cycle

Tengfei Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, various methods were integrated to identify the protein targets of monoethylhexyl phthalate (MEHP) and found cell cycle dysregulation as a primary change due to its toxicity. The development of interactomics workflow simplified the redundant information from multiomics data and identified novel cell cycle regulatory protein targets for MEHP, such as CPEB4, ANAPC5, and SPOUT1.

Acute exposure of di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) induces immune signal regulation and ferroptosis in oryzias melastigma

Xiaohan Yin et al.

Summary: DEHP, a plasticizer, is widely present in the global environment and has adverse effects such as endocrine disruption; acute exposure to DEHP in marine medaka led to impaired immunity, metabolism, and endocrine system; ferroptosis occurred in response to DEHP exposure in medaka, inducing cell death.

Xenobiotics Targeting Cardiolipin Metabolism to Promote Thrombosis in Zebrafish

Hang Liu et al.

Summary: Exposure to environmental chemicals disrupts the equilibrium of cardiolipins and promotes thrombosis. Through untargeted metabolomics approach, approximately 3030 molecules were detected in zebrafish embryos exposed to 11 environmental chemicals, revealing interconnectivity among different metabolites. The upregulation of cardiolipins by chemical exposure influences enzymatic activities and disrupts homeostasis, ultimately leading to thrombotic events.

Simultaneous action of microbial phospholipase C and lipase on model bacterial membranes - Modeling the processes crucial for bioaugmentation

Paulina Perczyk et al.

Summary: Bioaugmentation is a promising method for remediating soils contaminated with persistent organic pollutants, but the effectiveness can be hindered by enzymes secreted by native microorganisms. By studying the interactions between different types of phospholipid membranes and bacterial PLC and lipases, we can better understand how these enzymes affect model membranes and the potential resistance of certain bacteria to their activity.
